Maria Shurochkina is a young promising Russian athlete, master of sports in synchronized swimming of international class. Thinking about her future, the athlete does not see herself as a coach. After leaving big sports, the girl intends to pursue a musical career. Time will tell what will come of this. In the meantime, she spends a lot of time - as much as her training and performance schedule allows - with her half-sister, singer Nyusha. The girls are friends and often post joint photos online.

Biography of Maria Shurochkina

Maria Vladimirovna was born in the capital of Russia. The girl’s parents make up a rather colorful couple: the athlete’s father, musician and producer Vladimir Shurochkin, is a former member of the mega-popular musical group “Tender May,” and her mother, Oksana, is a former professional athlete.

Maria is not her parents' only child. She has a younger brother, Ivan, who is also building a sports career. But unlike his sister, he is not involved in such a popular sport. Ivan Shurochkin is a tricking player.

Her father has another daughter from his first marriage - Anna Shurochkina. She is the half-sister of a synchronized swimmer and is known to the general public under the pseudonym Nyusha.

Maria started playing sports very early. At first it was an acrobatic section, and then synchronized swimming appeared in her life. It is worth noting that little Masha never aspired to become a champion. She wanted to go to pool classes just for her own pleasure. When the girl realized that she would have to work very seriously, she even wanted to quit the section. But her parents persuaded her to stay, and Maria continued her studies. Gradually she got involved in the sports regime, synchronized swimming became a part of Maria Shurochkina’s life.

Masha got her first significant victory at the age of 15: she took gold at the European Junior Championships.

In her collection of victories and rise to the podium, Shurochkina became the first Russian woman in the Figure discipline. Her individual program earned the distinction.

The young synchronized swimmer has many sporting achievements in adult competitions. The 2013 Summer Universiade, held in Kazan, brought the girl a group victory. She also distinguished herself in the combined performance. In the same year, she won medals 3 times at the World Championships held in Barcelona.

Maria has gold from several European Championships. The athlete showed herself well at performances in Berlin and London.

All this time, the girl was preparing herself to fulfill her old dream. She wanted to get Olympic gold by becoming a member of the national team in Rio de Janeiro. And this goal was achieved: Maria, together with her teammates, took her long-awaited Olympic gold.

Maria Shurochkina is a young Russian athlete, an international master of sports in synchronized swimming, who has already become an 8-time world champion, 3-time European champion and Olympic champion at the 2016 Summer Olympics.

Maria was born in Moscow in the family of a musician and producer, a former member of the pop group “Tender May” that thundered throughout the country. The girl’s mother, whose name is Oksana, is a former professional athlete.

The synchronized swimmer has a younger brother, Ivan. The young man also chose a sports career for himself, although the guy is involved in a little-known sport. Ivan's choice fell on tricking - a kind of combination of martial arts, acrobatics and breakdancing. But Masha’s most famous relative is considered to be her half-sister Anna Shurochkina, who was born in her father’s first family. Fans of popular music know the girl as a singer.

Maria was involved in sports from an early age. At first it was acrobatics and ballroom dancing, and later synchronized swimming. Initially, the girl did not strive for great heights. When Masha agreed to her parents’ persuasion to go to the pool, she thought that she would just swim there and enjoy her time.

And when it turned out that hard, intense training lay ahead, Masha wanted to stop going to the section, but her father and mother insisted on continuing classes. And gradually Maria Shurochkina became involved in sports. Masha was taken to the Synchronized Swimming Sports School for Youth of the Moscow Sports Committee. Later, the girl received the title of Master of Sports and is now sure that without synchronized swimming, life would not be so fulfilling. In her favorite sport, the synchronized swimmer considers the French athlete Virginia Didier to be her idol.

Synchronized swimming

The first serious victories awaited the synchronized swimmer at the age of 15. At the European Junior Championships, the girl, whose height by that time had reached 163 cm, won a gold medal twice. Then Shurochkina was the first Russian woman to stand on the podium after performing in an individual program in the newly introduced “Figures” discipline.

The young athlete has many achievements in adult competitions. In 2013, at the Summer Universiade in Kazan, Masha became the champion in group and combined performance. Maria's high sporting achievements were awarded a Certificate of Honor from the President of the Russian Federation.

In the same year, she was the best three times at the World Championships in Barcelona, Spain. Two years later, Shurochkina will repeat this success at the home world championship.

The athlete also has gold at the European Championships, which took place in Berlin, Germany, and London, the capital of Great Britain.

The girl was intensively preparing to make her dream come true. Maria set the goal of becoming an Olympic champion as part of the Russian team at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. And the goal was achieved. Maria Shurochkina and fellow synchronized swimmers, among whom were Vlada Chigireva, Alla Shishkina and others, took gold in group competitions. For her victory at the Olympics, Maria was awarded the Order of Friendship. In addition to official awards, Masha won the title of best athlete of the year at the 2016 Fashion People Awards.

Personal life

Since Maria Shurochkina now seriously intends to pursue a sports career in synchronized swimming, the girl does not think about starting a family and does not build serious relationships with men.

Masha developed a warm and friendly relationship with her older sister Anna, singer Nyusha. The girls grew up in different families, but this did not stop the sisters from spending a lot of time together. Since childhood, Anya has traveled with her father's new family. Still on social networks, including “ Instagram“Both Anna and Maria constantly post photos together.

Shurochkina is already thinking about what she will do when big sport is a thing of the past. The girl believes that a coaching career will not be interesting, so she is thinking of following in the footsteps of her father and sister and taking up music. In the meantime, in her free time, Nyusha’s sister develops her creative potential.

In 2016, Maria also tried herself as a model, demonstrating a wedding dress on the catwalk during a show of the designer’s collection. Singer Nyusha and other show business stars also appeared at the show in dazzling outfits.

Maria Shurochkina now

Maria’s sports biography is developing rapidly. In 2017, the Russian synchronized swimming team, which also included Nyusha’s sister, participated in the World Aquatics Championships, which was held under the auspices of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) in the capital of Hungary. The competition took place in the Dagály Swimming Complex, the largest international swimming complex in Eastern Europe, recently built on the banks of the Danube.

The Russian team became third in the overall medal standings after the teams of the USA and China. Russian athletes won 11 gold, 6 silver and 8 bronze medals. The synchronized swimming team, which included, in addition to Masha Shurochkina, Anastasia and Daria Bayandin, Darina Valitova, Marina Golyadkina, Polina Komar, brought two gold medals to the total, becoming champions in the technical and free programs. In the new program, called “Shamans,” Shurochkina was entrusted with jumping and complex acrobatic elements.

Maria Shurochkina is known not only for her sporting achievements. The girl has already participated in the creation of her sister’s video, and in 2017 she starred in the young singer’s video for the song “Tusi Sam.”

In the same year, a significant event took place for the Shurochkin family - singer Nyusha and Maria’s mother Oksana Shurochkina opened a dance school “Freedom Station” in the Oceania shopping center. The studio opened its doors to children, adults, and people with disabilities. The school offers classes in classical choreography, flamenco, Latin American dances, as well as hip-hop, breakdancing and go-go styles. Nyusha and Maria Shurochkina: “This summer was not easy for our family”

Singer Nyusha and her sister, Olympic champion in synchronized swimming Maria Shurochkina admit that they don’t spend time together very often. And it's not about relationships at all. The reason for this is the girls’ schedules: one has training, the other has tours. After the Olympics, Rio provided the sisters with a little respite and the girls were able to spend time together. Returning to Moscow, Masha again began preparing for the competition, and Nyusha began rehearsing for her new show “Nine Lives,” which she will present on November 2 at Crocus City Hall. But before that, the Shurochkin sisters met with HELLO! and shared their impressions of Brazil, and also told how star statuses are now distributed in their family.

Nyusha and Maria Shurochkina

Girls, probably only Brazil was talked about in your house this summer?

Nyusha. Yes. This summer has been difficult for our family. Whether our girls would be allowed into the Olympic Games or not, it was unbearable to just sit and wait. Masha and I constantly encourage each other. And then even my hands gave up - for the first time I felt so helpless. But the hardest thing was to hide my condition from my sister: lately we have become so close that we even “share” our mood from a distance. Of course, I tried to encourage Masha: “No matter what is done, everything is for the better!”

Masha. Not being upset about something you can’t influence is a trait Nyusha and her dad share in common. Don’t stress yourself out and don’t engage in self-criticism - their calmness helped me hold out until victory. (Smiles.) I was ready to fall into despair: for 15 years I lived with the dream of performing at the Olympic Games, and here everything could end overnight.

Nevertheless, you not only made it to the Games, but also returned from Rio with a gold medal. Is it heavy, by the way?

Masha. About half a kilogram is not that heavy compared to how I got it. (Laughs.) After the victory, I had free time to get to know Rio. I was fascinated - he was so bright and restless. The people there are simple, no frills...

Nyusha. And very sincere. When we went to celebrate the victory at a local bar, the Russian and Brazilian volleyball teams were playing. We were given a table in the very center. So that you understand, there were no Russians there at all except us. And our voices, when we supported the Russians, were drowned in the roar of the Brazilian fans. And when the Russian team lost, they attacked us... with hugs. Like, don't be upset, it's just a game. There was a piano in the bar, and for the rest of the evening we sang “Black Eyes” and “Katyusha,” while the locals danced and even tried to sing along. It turned out that in Brazil they really love Russians.

Were you not afraid of the rampant crime that was talked about so much?

Masha. There were, of course, cases. For example, our coach had his phone stolen right from his room. But my sister and I were lucky. Even when we went to take photos at Copacabana beach, known for its hectic environment. I admit, at first I clutched the medal to myself: I was afraid that they would take it right off my neck. (Smiles.)

Nyusha. I was always on the alert. On the very first day we were warned: do not carry any valuables with you and do not walk alone. Local residents, by the way, also follow these rules. For example, when we paid the guide for the excursion, he put the money in a sock for safekeeping. But Masha is also an extreme person - she came to the beach and brought half a kilogram of gold with her! (Laughs.)

You are so friendly, but do you spend your holidays together?

Masha. We rarely see each other and, of course, we try to plan our vacation so that we can be together. After the competition, a few days are enough for me to regain my strength, and then the adrenaline goes through the roof again. Horseback riding or skydiving - I choose relaxation with movement.

Nyusha. And I love a relaxed holiday. Go shopping, buy souvenirs. However, I didn’t bring anything from Rio - the locals don’t speak English at all. But I tried Brazilian cuisine. The most famous dish here is feijoada. Quite a heavy, I would say, “masculine” dish. In general, in Brazil they love meat, they cook it any way and with anything.

Masha. There are also very tasty desserts here. The only thing my sister and I can’t resist. Then we come to Moscow and lose weight: for me everything burns out during training, for Nyusha - during rehearsals. In general, I admire my sister - how they applaud her, how they love her... It so happens in our family that I am more of my mother’s daughter (it was she who instilled in my brother and me a love for sports), and Nyusha is my father’s. They have a common interest - music. Sometimes I feel a little sad that I can’t spend as much time with him as my sister does.

On the famous Copacabana beach, Nyusha and Masha tried a traditional Brazilian drink - coconut milk

Ever wanted to change places?

Nyusha. I once tried to make several figures in the pool when we were relaxing. I will say this - it is very difficult. But Masha believes that if I worked out, I would turn out to be a good athlete. Despite the fact that Masha and Vanya chose sports, they really have a talent for music: they inherited both their hearing and voice from their dad. I think that the singer is missing in my sister; she sings really well. I hope that someday we will put together our family band. (Smiles.) And her wall with medals will be replenished with music awards.

Nyusha and Maria Shurochkin

The other day I spoke about the successes of my sister Maria Shurochkina, who went to represent Russia at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro..

Nyusha and Maria Shurochkin are half sisters. When the future singer was two years old, her parents divorced, but for the sake of their daughter they maintained a normal relationship. Soon the girl's father got married. And over time, Nyusha (then still using Anna’s passport) first had a sister, Masha, and then a brother, Ivan. Nyusha spent a lot of time with her father, so the girls became friends and have maintained a warm relationship since then. Maria often accompanies the singer at social events, but she is not in the shadow of her star relative, since she herself is a celebrity. Maria Shurochkina is a six-time world champion in synchronized swimming. And she only turned 21 a month ago, so Masha still has everything ahead of her. The pop star is also proud of her younger sister. She was very worried when the pre-Olympic scandals began and the question arose about our team’s participation in the Summer Games. But as a result, the synchronized swimming team was allowed to compete, which Nyusha happily reported: “Today the Russian team exhaled. And I am very happy for my sister, who will go as part of the synchronized swimming team to represent our country in Rio!!! My dear Masha Shurochkina, I will be very worried about you.” It’s worth adding that the sisters try to follow each other’s example. The singer learns from her sister perseverance and patience in sports, and Masha learns determination and the right attitude towards life.

The elder sister of Ekaterina Strizhenova is no less famous than the TV presenter. Her name is Victoria Andriyanova, and she is a fashion designer. The girls' father died when Victoria was twelve and Katya was six. The mother raised the girls. She tried to instill in them good taste and sewed beautiful dresses at night. Now Strizhenova dresses for her famous sister and considers her one of the most talented Russian designers.
